Craniosacral Therapy

[What can it treat?] [When is it available?] [Fees & Consultation]

(See also Craniosacral Treatment in Babies & Children)

osteopCraniosacral Therapy (CST) is an exceptionally gentle yet powerful form of treatment, now becoming well-known for its range of therapeutic benefits, and it’s ability to resolve issues that have not been helped by other means.

It involves a very gentle touch of the therapist’s hands at the cranium (head), sacrum (lower spine), or elsewhere as needed. These contacts are used to sense and to enhance a deep, yet subtle body rhythm, which, in CST is recognised as having a fundamental affect on our health.

This rhythm was discovered by an American Osteopath over 100 years ago. He described it as a tide moving through the fluids of the central nervous system and as a breathing-like movement in every structure of the body. He said that the rhythm carries with it a healing-like force or vitality, which has a remarkable capacity to ease pain, repair injury, regulate body systems, and improve health on many levels. Clients have reported therapeutic benefits ranging widely from resolving of physical aches, pains and spinal misalignment’s, to releasing of deeply held patterns of stress, anxiety and trauma.

During a CST session, the client lies on a treatment couch and remains clothed. Treatment is commonly experienced as a very profound relaxation, accompanied by a sense of lightness and ease.

Due to the extreme gentleness of this therapy, it is safe and appropriate for all ages and most conditions, from newborns and pregnant women, through to the fragile or elderly..
